Ekohotblog reports that the Epe Local Government Council, in partnership with the Nigerian Optometric Association, Lagos Chapter, has announced plans for a 2-day free eye care programme for residents.
The event will take place on October 10 and 11, 2024, at the Epe Local Government Secretariat, Ita-Marun.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon.Surah Animashaun, explained that the free programme is organized to celebrate the 2024 World Sight Day, with the theme: “Love Your Eyes – Kids.”
The programme will provide residents with free eye tests, surgeries, glasses, and other treatments.
“The aim of this programme is to help our people take care of their eyes and to prevent eye problems.
We want everyone, especially the elderly and children, to come out and benefit from this service,” said Ms. Animashaun.
She noted that the first 200 children to attend will receive free eye surgeries, glasses, and drugs. Elderly residents will also get free glasses and eye medications.
Animashaun encouraged everyone to take part in the programme and get checked by experienced optometrists.
“There will be free consultations, screenings, and eye care treatments. We are doing this to ensure that people in our community can have better vision and good eye health,” she added.
The Council Chairperson advised all participants to be seated by 9 a.m. each day to ensure smooth and timely service delivery.
“We want to make sure everyone is attended to, so it’s important to come early,” she said.
Animashaun concluded by encouraging residents to use this opportunity to get professional eye care and raise awareness about the importance of good eye health.
