EKO HOT BLOG reports that Epe residents heaved a sigh of relief at the kick-off of the reconstruction of Oke-Oyinbo Road by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Oke-Oyinbo road which is symbolic in the history of the ancient community based on its affinity with the Colonial era witnessed the deployment of massive construction machines and heavy-duty vehicles as reconstruction commenced on the road.

This online media platform gathered that the ancient Oke-Oyinbo/Awolowo Road has been abandoned since 2015.
Residents of Epe and other users of the road, who have first-hand knowledge of daily trauma they experience on the particular section of the road, could not hide their excitement at the remarkable development.
The former Chief Press Secretary of Epe Local Government, Mark Osifeko, who could not hide his feeling praised the governor for the reconstruction of Oke-Oyinbo road.
“This is a good development. I appreciate Governor Sanwo-Olu for giving Epe a fair share of infrastructural development under his administration. Kudos to our leaders who made it a point of duty to intensify efforts to give the road attention,” he said.
A resident of the community, Sanuth Olabode said, “We thank God. It is a good development because, for a long time, this place has been a death trap. Before the reconstruction began on Monday, the popular “Okada” has fatally injured our women plying the road to get to their market stalls to do business but since yesterday, it is a sigh of relief and we thank the State Government and the Governor, they did well.”
Another resident, Mr Sikiru Alausa, also known as, Raja, who in the company of his fellow Senior Citizens at the famous Ijoko Agba Forum in Epe, also expressed his gratitude, drew the attention of the government to other areas of the community that needs attention.
“We will have to thank Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat. This ditch has been dug for a while, during the era of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. We made a passionate appeal to the Government and they promised to fix it.
“Particularly, when Sanwo-Olu came to commission the Maternal and Child Center (MCC), he promised to fix it and we thank him for his leadership. Ours is for the road to last long. And as long as the Government provide us with stable electricity, good roads and industries, our educated children would benefit immensely,” he appealed.
Haven commended the governor for having Epe in his plans, another resident, Adisa Shabi, lamented the delay in the reconstruction of Oke-Oyinbo road. He called on the government to expedite action on the already mapped out projects for Epe.
He said, “Two weeks ago when the Thani Oladunjoye Old People Care Center was commissioned, the concerned leaders appealed to the Governor’s representative, Princess Aderemi Adebowale and she told them not to worry that it would be considered. Maybe when she returned to Lagos, she relayed our appeal to the Governor, I can’t say.”
Thereafter, the Senior Citizens re-echoed the need for the Lagos State Government to focus its developmental strides on Epe, arguing that neighbouring Local Governments such as Eti-Osa and Ikorodu are already swimming in an abundance of industries.
They lamented the unfortunate situation of having to fend for graduates in their homes who have no jobs as there are no industries to employ them.
