Former member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Oghene Egoh, has called on the Federal Government to strengthen its partnership with the United States in addressing the growing insecurity across the country.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Egoh, who represented Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, made the appeal during an interview on Monday, emphasizing that the persistent killings in Plateau and Benue States — once described by former U.S. President Donald Trump as “Christian genocide” — had now spread to parts of the North-West, where Muslims are also being attacked.

According to him, the disturbing trend highlights the need for urgent collaboration between Nigeria and the U.S. to combat terrorism, banditry, and insurgency.
“United States coming to Nigeria is a welcome development, as it will help to provide lasting solutions to insurgency, which affects both Muslims and Christians,” he said.
Egoh described the United States as a “second home” to many Nigerians, noting that nearly half a million citizens either work or study there.
He recalled that the U.S. Government once acknowledged Nigerians as one of the most educated immigrant groups in the country, with a large proportion holding university degrees.

The former lawmaker expressed confidence that any collaboration between both nations would yield mutual benefits.
“Any intervention or cooperation from the U.S. government would help restore peace and stability, benefiting both Christians and Muslims across the country,” he added.
Egoh further urged the American Government to adopt a diplomatic approach in collaborating with Nigeria, ensuring that such efforts align with the interests and security priorities of Nigerians.
He also called on the Federal Government to give priority to intelligence sharing, military training, and joint operations with international partners to effectively combat insecurity.
While commending President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s proactive steps in tackling insurgency and other security challenges, Egoh admitted that insecurity has been a long-standing issue that has persisted across successive governments.
“The issue of insecurity has gone beyond normal control, but I must commend the current administration for making concerted efforts to restore peace and stability,” he noted.

The former lawmaker concluded by appealing to the Federal Government to deepen its collaboration with U.S. security agencies to enhance the fight against insurgency and other forms of crime.
“If the United States security team collaborates with Nigeria’s security agencies, banditry, insurgency, and other related security challenges will become things of the past,” Egoh said.
