EKO HOT BLOG reports that authorities say Yoon, 64, is being held in a solitary cell following a court-issued arrest warrant on Thursday amid growing concerns he may destroy evidence. The former leader is accused of deploying armed soldiers to parliament on December 3, 2024, in a failed attempt to halt lawmakers from rejecting his martial law declaration.
Yoon had earlier been arrested in January after evading investigators for weeks, becoming the first sitting president in South Korea’s history to be taken into custody. Though released in March due to procedural issues, his trial on insurrection and related charges continued. After the Constitutional Court confirmed his impeachment in April, he again ignored multiple investigation summons.
Prosecutors said the latest arrest ensures his cooperation and protects the integrity of the ongoing probe. “He will be treated like any other suspect,” prosecutor Park Ji-young said.
Yoon is currently detained at a facility near Seoul, with only a fan for cooling amid a nationwide heatwave. He has reportedly complained of being left to “fight alone” as his legal team withdraws. During his hearing on Wednesday, which lasted over seven hours, Yoon denied all charges, including falsifying documents and authorising drone flights to justify martial law.

The Constitutional Court had labelled his actions a betrayal of public trust and an attack on democratic principles. He now faces possible indictment and extended detention. If indicted, he could remain in custody for up to six months.
