A devastating fire erupted at an MRS filling station near Yola International Airport in Adamawa State on Tuesday evening following a massive explosion. The incident, which occurred while a fuel tanker was offloading petrol, has left several casualties feared and widespread destruction in its wake.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the explosion triggered a fierce blaze that quickly spread across the station, consuming multiple vehicles and nearby structures. Witnesses described the fire as uncontrollable, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
In response to the inferno, firefighters from the Adamawa State Fire Service, the Federal Fire Service, and the American University of Nigeria (AUN) mobilized to battle the flames, working tirelessly to contain the situation.
Authorities have restricted movement in and out of the state capital to prevent further incidents, as fears grow that the fire could spread to other areas, including over ten nearby filling stations.
“We heard a loud bang, and within seconds, the entire station was engulfed in flames,” a local businessman told SaharaReporters. Another eyewitness described the destruction as “monumental,” emphasizing the severity of the damage.
Residents and business owners in the vicinity have expressed deep concern over the potential spread of the fire, given the high concentration of fuel depots in the area. Emergency responders are working around the clock to prevent further escalation.

As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding casualties or the full extent of the damage.
