EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi has disclosed that it is not all 23 aspirants gunning for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are actually in the race to be elected to fly the party’s flag in the 2023 presidential election.

While positing that any of the aspirants who has not been travelling around the country to meet with party delegates ahead of the May 29-30 national delegates’ conference of the APC is a pretender, the Governor asserted that only five of them are serious contenders for the party 2023 ticket.

Speaking on Sunday while addressing party delegates in Minna, the Niger State capital, Fayemi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), pointed out that the campaign of the APC presidential aspirants has “separated the pretenders from the contenders”.

“This is a season of visits, and the states keep receiving us. The list of presidential aspirants says there are 23 but only five of us are going around the country with this-you can separate the pretenders from the contenders,” he said.

The Ekiti Governor went on to tell the delegates that he would as President address the security challenges bedeviling the country, stressing that more attention would be paid to intelligence and the use of technology to fight insurgency.

He equally promised to decentralise the power sector in the country, insisting that his plan will bring about stability in power supply across the country.

“Nigerians are not happy with us that we have not been able to move the needle towards uninterrupted power supply. I think in addition to the national grid, we need to have regional grids, mini-grids, micro grids that would decentralise power supply to the local levels, and this would address this challenge that we all face.

“Once we address the challenges of power, we address the problem of industrialisation and productivity in the country,” Fayemi said.

In his remarks, the Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, echoed the submission of his guest that there are pretenders as presidential aspirants, because only five of the contenders have visited the state.
