Fake Passport Agent Docked
A 40-year-old man, Olusola Ipadeola, allegedly claimed to specialise in processing fake passport and travelling documents for prospective travellers at the popular Oluwole market, Lagos Island, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court.
He was arraigned for allegedly processing fake international passport for one Akeem Alao Dauda which led to his arrest at the Muritala Muhammed international airport on his way to Europe, PM news reports.
Police alleged that the accused introduced himself to the complainant in 2015 as a passport and visa agent and collected the sum of N250,000 from him to procured international passport for him.
Police said that the complainant stated that after the accused procured the passport and handed it over to him, he trusted him and kept it and that in 2020 when he presented the passport to the immigration officers at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos on his way abroad, he was arrested on the ground that the passport in his possession was fake.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Lion building Division, Lagos Island directed his team led by inspector Gboyega Oyeniyi to fish out the accused and the police arrested him at a hide out on Lagos Island following a tip off.
The accused was charged before the Igbosere Chief Magistrates’ Court on a two-court charge of obtaining money under false presence and forgery.
Police counsel, Godspower Ehizoba informed the court in charge No. Q/07/2020 that the accused committed the offense in 2015 in Lagos.
Ehizoba told the court that the accused procured fake international passport for the complainant to travel abroad, knowing full well that the passport he procured for the complainant was fake which led to the arrest of the complainant at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on his way to Europe.
He said the offences committed were punishable under sections 314 and 363 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate M.F Onanusi granted him N20,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Onanusi adjourned the case till 30 March, 2020 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi correctional facility till he perfected the bail conditions.
