EKO HOT BLOG reports that the tournament will be hosted across the Polish cities of Katowice, Sosnowiec and Bielsko-Biała, with 24 countries set to battle for the global youth title.
Nigeria secured qualification for the tournament after defeating Malawi 3-2 on aggregate during the African qualifying playoffs. The Falconets recorded a crucial 2-0 first-leg victory in Ikenne before suffering a 2-1 defeat in Lilongwe, which was still enough to seal qualification.
The Nigerian side now faces a difficult task in Group F, with Spain entering the tournament as one of the favourites following their recent dominance in women’s youth football.
China are also expected to provide strong competition with their disciplined and experienced squad, while New Caledonia will make their debut appearance at the tournament.
The Falconets remain one of the most consistent teams in the history of the competition, having qualified for every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since its inception.
Nigeria have also finished as runners-up twice and will be aiming to win their first title at the tournament while continuing their reputation for producing talents who graduate to the senior Super Falcons squad.
