Founder of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has explained why some gospel artistes left his church, attributing their departure to a shift in priorities toward fame and financial gain rather than spiritual devotion.
In a recently surfaced video, Oyakhilome expressed concern that worship had become too worldly, stating that some musicians in the church prioritized performances over prayer and evangelism.
“They led praise in church, but when it was time for prayers, they were gone,” he said, emphasizing that true worship should not be about entertainment but about honoring God.
The pastor also noted that many of these artistes had begun charging fees for their performances, seeing music as a business rather than a ministry.
While he initially appreciated their work, he later tried to guide them back to a more spiritual focus, but many resisted.
“I told them the Lord wanted us to do the right thing… but the little money they were making was too attractive, so they didn’t want to follow me,” he stated.
Despite their departure, Oyakhilome expressed hope that they would eventually return to their faith-driven mission.
