According to South African media reports, the 35-year-old rapper was killed in a drive-by shooting outside a popular restaurant on Florida Rd in Durban, South Africa.
Police confirmed that a 35-year-old male and another unidentified male had been shot dead on Friday night.
A paramedic Garrith Jamieson, told TimesLIVE, a South African publication, that just after 10.15pm on Friday evening, his team responded to a shooting incident where two men sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
“On arrival, paramedics met total chaos and a scene where two men, believed to be in their late 30s, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics assisted the men and unfortunately the first male had sustained multiple gun shot wounds and showed no signs of life and was declared deceased at the scene,” he said.
The paramedic said a second male, believed to be AKA’s bodyguard, was found in critical condition and died despite advanced life support intervention due to extensive injuries.
Eyewitness News, another South African media outfit, reported that the pair were having dinner when two unknown gunmen opened fire at them.
It remains unclear what the motive for the shooting was. Police officers were at the scene and closed the road to assist with the investigation.
Eko Hot Blog understands that the rapper was due to perform at a nightclub called YUGO on Friday night.
A notice was shared on social media, saying the event had been cancelled “due to unforeseen circumstances.”
AKA was among South Africa’s best rappers and produced and wrote many hit songs including Fela In Versace, Baddest and others since he broke into the industry over a decade ago. He also featured on the Sarkodie track, Special Sumone, alongside Nigeria’s Burna Boy.
He had a daughter, Kairo, with DJ Zinhle and was in a relationship with rapper Nadia Nakai.

Be Careful how you post your location online
Its a no brainer to post after you’ve left
Some things are better avoided
Too many evils in the world
You only got one life to live
Not AKA , This is so so sad
