EKO HOT BLOG reports that Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has listed the positives of the recently concluded 2023 elections in Nigeria. Despite challenges related to the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, Falana believes that the myth of political structure has been destroyed.
In an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, March 13, Falana stated, “There are some positive developments that were recorded. For instance, the myth of these political structures has been destroyed whereby people have shown that we are the structure, and the people are the structure ultimately.”

He added, “Secondly, young people have also shown this time around that we are going to determine the future of our country. Thirdly, you no longer have to be a moneybag to contest elections in Nigeria. Another development is that whereas the Senate chamber has been converted to a resting home for former governors; this time around, many of the governors lost their seats, they lost in the election and so they won’t be able to go back to the national assembly.”
Falana also highlighted that sitting governors and the sitting president could not win their states for their political parties.
He noted, “So, in spite of the challenges, a number of positive developments have been recorded by our country, and of course, I think the most significant is the use of BVAS for accreditation. It has improved the accreditation of voters.”
While Falana expressed disappointment with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for not being able to upload results to
the server in real-time during the elections, he acknowledged that the use of the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) had improved the accreditation of voters.

Overall, Falana sees the 2023 elections in Nigeria as a step in the right direction towards a more transparent and democratic process.
Despite challenges and setbacks, he believes that the Nigerian people have shown that they are determined to shape the future of their country and that traditional power structures are no longer invincible.
