The Federal Government has launched a new National Land Transport Policy to improve road safety and modernize the transport sector. Minister of Transportation, Sen. Said Ahmed Alkali, announced that the policy, the first of its kind in Nigeria, will provide a clear framework to develop the sector’s potential.
As part of the plan, Eko Hot Blog reports that the government will build six pilot bus terminals, one in each geopolitical zone, strategically placing them in economically viable locations.

These terminals will feature Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) centers to promote cleaner fuel and will house security agencies to combat road traffic accidents often linked to drug abuse.

The new policy also mandates that all buses, regardless of ownership, must use passenger manifests to enhance security.
The Minister also highlighted the administration’s “monumental achievements” in the rail sector, including the newly operational Port Harcourt to Aba line and the ongoing work on the Kaduna to Kano and Kano to Katsina lines.
