FG Elevates 20,867 Officers in Immigration, Civil Defence, Other Para-Military Services

In a major advancement for personnel within several key security and correctional agencies, the federal government has sanctioned the promotion of 20,867 senior officers across the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), and the Federal Fire Service (FFS).

The announcement, made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Friday, September 13, highlights the government’s commitment to bolstering the ranks of these critical services.

The minister also revealed that a number of select officers would receive special promotions, including two from the NCoS, four from the NIS, two from the NSCDC, and one from the FFS.

Providing further details through Alhaji Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Board of the Services, Tunji-Ojo broke down the promotions by agency: 5,329 officers from the Nigeria Correctional Service, 5,112 from the Nigeria Immigration Service, 9,937 from the NSCDC, and 489 from the Federal Fire Service have been elevated.

The promoted officers span a variety of ranks, including Inspector, Assistant Superintendent, Controller, Comptroller, and Commandant.

Beyond the promotions, the federal government has also approved a new training curriculum for the Federal Fire Service, along with a revised Scheme of Service. The Minister added that the ongoing 2023/24 Federal Fire Service recruitment exercise is expected to be concluded by the end of the month.
