FG, Labour Union Sign MoU on ₦70,000 New Minimum Wage
The Federal Government and the Labour Union have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the new minimum wage of ₦70,000.
A statement from the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, signed by Eno Olotu, Head of Information and Public Relations, confirmed that the committee on civil service salaries has agreed to implement the new minimum wage starting July 29, 2024. This agreement follows the committee’s meeting in Abuja on Friday.
The statement also noted that the committee recommended the continuation of the wage award, previously discontinued by the Federal Government, until July 28, 2024.

Led by Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, the committee took the country’s economic situation into account while reaching these decisions.
After the signing, Walson-Jack, who also served as the committee chair, praised members for their diligent efforts throughout the process. She stated, “Both the Trade Union and Government sides have agreed on the consequential adjustments in salaries resulting from the new minimum wage of ₦70,000.”
Walson-Jack also mentioned that all members reviewed and signed the MOU, with copies handed over to representatives from both sides. She described this assignment as one of the shortest and most amicable negotiations to date, indicating that the signed MOU will be forwarded to the Federal Government for further action.
