Out of the 87 beneficiaries, 27 women and youth received N200,000 each along with farming inputs to support their work.
The other 60 farmers were selected from the state’s three senatorial districts and got N100,000 each under the “Every Home A Garden 2.0” programme.
The supported farmers are involved in different agricultural businesses such as vegetable farming, fisheries, poultry, garri processing, zobo production, and beekeeping.
To further promote agriculture among young people, 120 students from 24 public schools across the six education districts in Lagos will also participate in the programme. Each school selected five students from both junior and senior levels to join the Young Farmers Club.
Speaking at the event, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, praised the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for funding the initiative with N60 million.

She explained that the programme has four parts: Women Agricultural Support, Youth Agricultural Support, Every Home A Garden, and the Young Farmers Club. She added that it was launched at the same time in all 36 states of the country.
“This programme is helping women and youth see agriculture as a way to earn a living and ensure we have enough food,” Dr. Sanwo-Olu said. “We are working towards a Lagos where no one sleeps hungry, and where our people are empowered.”
The wife of the Deputy Governor, Oluremi Hamzat, also described the programme as a way to boost food production at home.
Experienced farmer Femi Ojelade and federal coordinator Omolara Oguntuyi urged young people to take agriculture seriously and consider organic farming as the way forward.
