On Tuesday, Forest received a four-point deduction for violating the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
According to the Premier League, the City Ground landlords admitted violating Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) by £34.5m surpassing their permitted threshold of £61m.
The club faces the possibility of violating financial regulations again next season unless they sell one of their key players in the summer. As a result, Awoniyi has been identified as one of the top players that the club co-owner Evangelos Marinakis might need to sell before the next season.
Awoniyi joined the Tricky Trees from Union Berlin for a club-record fee in region of £17.5m June 2022.
So far this season, the 26-year-old has scored six goals, falling three goals shy of Chris Wood, who is currently the club top scorer.
Newcastle, West Ham, and Southampton from the Premier League are reportedly eyeing a move for the ex-Liverpool striker, with FC Schalke 04 also expressing interest in the Super Eagles forward.
