Fortunately, no life was lost in the incident.
Confirming the development on Sunday, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said firefighters responded promptly to a distress call and successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and properties.
According to him, the operation was carried out jointly by personnel of the Oyo State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service.
“Upon arrival, it was discovered that a container and four vehicles at the mechanic workshop were engulfed by fire, with thick smoke billowing from the vehicles and container involved in the incident.
“The fire was swiftly contained by Oyo State Fire Service personnel, preventing further spread to nearby properties,” Akinwande stated.
He explained that preliminary findings indicated that sparks from an engine compartment ignited combustible materials within the workshop, leading to the outbreak.

“The cause of the fire was sparks from an engine compartment, which ignited combustible materials. No casualty was recorded,” he added.
Meanwhile, a separate fire incident was also recorded in Ogbomoso on Saturday.
The blaze occurred at No. 5 Ile Atagbonrin, Stadium Area, Ogbomoso, where a shop and a residential building were affected.
Akinwande disclosed that firefighters were deployed to the scene and managed to contain the inferno.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a prefabricated shop adjoining a six-room residential building was engulfed by fire,” he said.
Although no casualties were reported, properties worth millions of naira were said to have been damaged in the incident.
Authorities have urged residents and business owners to observe safety precautions and ensure regular inspection of electrical and mechanical equipment to prevent similar occurrences.
