An early morning inferno struck the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Saturday, destroying properties worth millions of naira and disrupting operations at the facility.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the fire, which began around 5 a.m., reportedly started in a pediatric consultant’s office due to an electrical spark, according to initial findings. The blaze spread to the hospital’s Emergency and Accident Unit, causing extensive damage to equipment, books, engines, and electronic devices, as well as roofs and ceilings.
To ensure patient safety, 16 individuals were evacuated from the affected ward during the incident.
The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Omotayo Ogunleye, confirmed the fire but described it as a minor incident, assuring the public that normal activities have since resumed. “Yes, it is true. It is a minor incident. But, normal activities have resumed in the hospital,” Ogunleye said.
Despite the quick resumption of operations, the loss incurred has been significant, with the hospital now faced with repairs and replacement of essential equipment.
