On Wednesday afternoon, several members of the House of Representatives and their legislative aides were forced to evacuate their offices in the White House section of the National Assembly complex after a fire broke out around 3:50 p.m.
According to eyewitness reports, including one from a Nigerian Tribune correspondent on the scene, the fire started in Room 352, an Electrical Panel Room (ELV Room) located on the third floor of the recently constructed building.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that panic quickly spread through the building, but the Fire Service personnel stationed within the complex responded swiftly.
They gained access to the normally locked room, overseen by the Electrical Department, and immediately began efforts to control the blaze.
As part of their safety measures, the electrical connections throughout the new building were cut off to prevent the fire from spreading, resulting in the shutdown of all elevators. This caused a temporary disruption to services as banks and other businesses operating within the building were forced to halt operations.
The situation prompted a swift evacuation of staff and visitors to ensure safety.
At the time of this report, Fire Service personnel were still at the site, working to secure all electrical systems and locate the on-duty electrician to prevent any further incidents.
The quick response of the fire personnel was instrumental in containing the situation before it could escalate further.
