The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N1 billion to assist victims of recent armed attacks in the Yelwata community of Guma Local Government Area in Benue State.
This significant contribution was made during her condolence visit to the state on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, following a tragic incident on June 13-14, 2025, where more than 100 people were reportedly killed.
The purpose of the donation is to help survivors rebuild their lives after the devastation, as reported by Daily Trust.
During her visit, Mrs. Tinubu also pledged further support through her Renewed Hope Initiative. This initiative aims to tackle the issue of cross-border attacks and ensure that children affected by the violence can return to school, resuming their education.
The paramount ruler of Tiv nation worldwide, Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, spoke during the visit, describing the attacks as a “genocidal war” and alleging that Nasarawa State was being used as a base by the attackers.
The state Governor, Hyacinth Alia also expressed deep concern over the resulting humanitarian crisis. He called for the establishment of state police to enhance security and advocated for ranching to be adopted as a national policy to resolve conflicts between herders and farmers.
In response to these concerns, Mrs. Tinubu promised to work closely with the Nasarawa State Governor’s wife to find lasting solutions to the recurring cross-border issues.
She reaffirmed her initiative’s dedication to supporting the education of displaced children and assisting the affected communities in their recovery efforts.
