Nollywood actor Saidi Balogun has attributed the persistent flooding in Lagos to the poor waste disposal practices of residents.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a video posted on Instagram, the actor said many of the flooding issues stem from people dumping refuse into gutters and blocking drainage channels. He recalled witnessing similar acts in Maryland, where he observed residents throwing trash directly into open drains.
Balogun stressed that such actions worsen flooding and that residents must share responsibility for the problems they complain about.
“We are the government, and we are the ones doing this to ourselves,” he said. “Because they dumped refuse into the gutter, look at Ikorodu Road, people have blocked the gutter. We even saw some people at Maryland but we couldn’t record it. Throwing dustbins into the gutter blocks the drainage.”
Meanwhile, Afrobeats star Folarin Odunlami, popularly known as Fola, has narrated a difficult experience from when he first relocated to Lagos to pursue his music career.
According to him, on the very day he arrived in the city in 2018, he was arrested and forced to spend the night at a police station. The artist admitted that the incident left him discouraged and almost pushed him to abandon his musical ambitions.
