Nigeria maintains 109 diplomatic missions worldwide, comprising 76 embassies, 22 high commissions, and 11 consulates.
On September 2, 2023, President Bola Tinubu issued a directive recalling all career and non-career ambassadors stationed globally. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed by the Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, confirmed the recall, which required the envoys to return to Nigeria by October 31, 2023.
The recall affected 41 non-career and 42 career ambassadors appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2020. Despite the recall, over a year has passed without new ambassadors being appointed or deployed to various countries.
