Former President Obasanjo Claims Sabotage Against Dangote Refinery
Ekohotblog reports that in a recent interview with the Financial Times, former President Olusegun Obasanjo alleged that sinister forces are undermining the success of the $20 billion Dangote Refinery.
Obasanjo suggested that influential figures within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector are actively working to thwart the refinery’s progress due to its threat to their lucrative business of importing refined petrol.

Obasanjo emphasized that the successful operation of the refinery could potentially attract both domestic and foreign investment into Nigeria.
However, he warned that those who stand to lose from the decline in imported refined products might make concerted efforts to obstruct its progress.
He criticized Nigeria’s over-reliance on oil, noting that the nation’s focus on this single resource has led to neglect in other critical areas such as gas and agriculture.
“We made a grave mistake by concentrating solely on oil and disregarding gas, which is a vital commodity. Additionally, we overlooked agriculture, which should have been a central pillar of our economic development,” Obasanjo said.
The former president’s comments come amidst ongoing challenges faced by the Dangote Refinery, including a crisis in crude oil supply.
