Eko Hot Blog reports that Moroccan-born US-raised rapper, Karim Kharbouch, professionally known as French Montana has donated 500 canoes to the Makoko community in Lagos.

Montana’s gesture was born out of giving back to the overly populated slum on the Lagos lagoon for its reception to the rapper during his music video shooting few weeks back.

In a recent video released by Montana, ‘Wish U Well’, featuring American rapper Swae Lee and Nigerian Artsite, Lojay, the rapper was seen paddling a canoe and donned in the native Yoruba attire, Agbada.

Montana had stated, recently, that he would be donating 500 canoes to the Makoko community for ease of transportation. He added that the struggles of the people roused him to be engaged and impact change.

“I witnessed firsthand how water is both a lifeline and an obstacle in Makoko. These boats are essential tools transporting the residents of Makoko and goods and services,” the statement reads.

“When I was filming, I met local leaders who talked about the daily struggles and aspirations of the wider community. I was moved by their spirit and positivity, which inspired me to get involved and to help impact change”, he said.
