- Fresh Crisis Brews in PDP, Threatening November National Convention
- The press release should be discountenanced because no formal sitting
- National Working Committee (NWC) never met to take such a decision
A fresh crisis is unfolding in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), raising concerns about the success of its planned National Convention in November.
The party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has rejected the reported dissolution of the Akwa Ibom State Working Committee (SWC), insisting that the National Working Committee (NWC) never met to take such a decision.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that his position directly contradicts that of the Acting National Chairman, creating another round of conflict at the party’s top hierarchy.
In a letter dated October 1, 2025, titled “RE: Dissolution of Akwa Ibom State Working Committee”, Anyanwu dismissed the announcement made by the National Publicity Secretary. “For clarity, the press release should be discountenanced because no formal sitting of the NWC was held to approve such dissolution,” he wrote.
He further argued that the Publicity Secretary lacks the authority to implement NWC decisions, declaring the statement “null, void, and of no effect.” Anyanwu maintained that the Akwa Ibom PDP SWC remains intact and directed its officials to continue carrying out their duties under the party’s 2017 constitution (as amended).
Contrary to this position, the National Publicity Secretary had on Monday announced the dissolution of the state executive and the appointment of a 31-member caretaker committee to manage affairs for at least three months.
The conflicting directives highlight deepening rifts within the PDP leadership, coming at a critical time as the party prepares for its national convention.

Observers fear that unresolved internal disputes may undermine unity ahead of the crucial political gathering.
