Fubara Still Rivers Governor – Presidency Insists, Slams Peter Obi.
The Presidency has clarified that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, but only suspended them as part of constitutional measures to address the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Olusegun Dada, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, made this assertion on Wednesday while responding to comments made by former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, during the birthday colloquium of ex-Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Obi had expressed concerns over Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, stating that democracy under the current administration had collapsed.
Reacting to Obi’s remarks, Dada accused him of hypocrisy, arguing that democracy had already deteriorated in Rivers State due to Fubara’s alleged unconstitutional actions.
Dada outlined the basis for Tinubu’s intervention, citing the October 29, 2023, crisis where Fubara allegedly established an illegal four-member House of Assembly and later demolished the parliamentary building.
“It is now a fact that Peter Obi only enjoys making hypocritical statements to appease his followers. He claimed democracy collapsed under Tinubu because the President proclaimed a state of emergency in Rivers to prevent further political unrest,” Dada stated.
He further explained that Tinubu acted within constitutional limits by invoking Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution, which grants the President the power to declare a state of emergency.
“President Tinubu did not remove or impeach any elected official. His intervention was aimed at restoring order, and it was a necessary action to stabilize the state.”
Dada emphasized that Fubara remained the governor but was temporarily unable to exercise executive powers, just as the state assembly members had been suspended.
Dada also criticized Obi for praising former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a champion of democracy, accusing him of conveniently ignoring Obasanjo’s alleged role in his impeachment as Anambra governor in 2006.
“In case Obi has forgotten, it was under Obasanjo that his party, APGA, won the 2003 election but was denied victory. He only reclaimed his mandate after internal disputes among PDP leaders,” Dada said.
He further accused Obi of running a non-democratic administration in Anambra by appointing sole administrators instead of conducting local government elections throughout his tenure.
“Peter Obi should be the last person talking about democracy when, for almost eight years, he ruled Anambra without allowing elected local government officials to function. He needs a Doctorate Degree in Hypocritical Science,” Dada concluded.
