The governor explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with family members, friends and political associates.

“After deep reflection and wide consultations, I have decided to step down from the APC governorship primaries. I remain committed to supporting the eventual candidate of our great party,” he stated.
Fubara stressed that the overall interest of Rivers State must come ahead of individual political ambitions, noting that maintaining peace and stability in the state was paramount.
He thanked his supporters for their loyalty, sacrifices and commitment throughout his political journey, acknowledging the disappointment many might feel over his withdrawal.
According to him, their support and trust were not misplaced despite the development.

The governor also explained that his silence during periods of political pressure was intentional and guided by the larger interests of the state.
He noted that restraint should not be mistaken for weakness, adding that some difficult realities are better handled quietly to preserve peace.
Fubara said he had faced intense pressure and challenging decisions in recent months but maintained that his commitment to Rivers State remained unwavering.
He appreciated the APC leadership for providing him the platform and support during the process and also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his encouragement.
Describing the APC as a collective home for members and supporters, the governor urged party faithful to remain united and continue working toward strengthening the party.
He further clarified that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as surrender or fear, insisting that the move was a sacrifice aimed at ensuring harmony and progress in Rivers State.

Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of the state until the end of his tenure.
The governor’s decision comes after months of political tension linked to his prolonged rift with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over control of political structures in the state.
The crisis had previously led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly following the declaration of emergency rule in the state.
The political impasse was eventually resolved after intervention by President Tinubu and subsequent reconciliation talks involving key stakeholders.
