The president had announced the cancellation of petrol subsidy, firmly stating that, “fuel subsidy is gone!”

His pronouncement was met by panic as citizens rushed to filling stations to buy fuel, prompting some marketers to exploit the situation to start selling as higher prices.

During a visit to the State secretariat in Alausa on Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu lamented that some petroleum marketers are taking advantage of Tinubu’s announcement on the removal of oil subsidy to hoard the commodity and inflict suffering on the citizens.

“I think it is too early in the day for people to second guess our new president. This is a pronouncement; it is unfair for some of our major marketers to want to begin to seize opportunities,” he said.

“There is nothing that has changed in that pronouncement that could have caused the queues, but hey, I am sure the federal government that we have will be able to rise up and deal with it.

“I want to encourage everyone to be law-abiding, to go about their normal business”

Earlier, Sanwo-Olu visited the Civil Service Commission, which is statutorily responsible for resource mobilisation and management in the state’s civil service.

During his interaction with the management staff, the governor said the Commission was an important office that must continue to run because of its strategic importance to the implementation of his Government’s policies and vision.

On what civil servants should expect in his second term, he said: “It is additional reforms and citizen-driven policies that will touch the lives of the people. They should know where they need to work with us on each of those policies.
