Warns of Legal Action for Alleged Defamatory Articles
Eko Hot Blog reports that, in a stern move, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has issued a cease-and-desist notice to Segun Olatunji, Editor of FirstNews.
The notice demands a public apology and retraction within seven days over allegedly false and defamatory articles published in January and April 2024.

Gbajabiamila’s legal team, led by Dr. Kemi Pinheiro SAN of Pinheiro LP, warned of legal implications under cybercrime laws and potential civil and criminal proceedings.
In a statement, they said, “Our client’s attention has been drawn to the series of deliberate and coordinated malicious campaigns of calumny against his person.”
Additionally, the firm accused Olatunji of falsely and maliciously portraying Gbajabiamila as “a fraudulent, corrupt, dishonest, shady, unreliable and disloyal person who is unfit to hold the exalted office of Chief of Staff.”
They demanded that Olatunji “cause to be published in two national newspapers a full page unequivocal public retraction and apology in terms to be approved by our firm.”
Furthermore, Gbajabiamila’s team alerted the public to a coordinated campaign of calumny against him and urged those already hosting the publications to cease and desist.
“Unless this warning is heeded, our client will not hesitate to ensure that such perpetrators face the wrath of the law,” the statement read.
The firm is seeking exemplary and aggravated damages, an injunction, retraction, and a public apology in two national dailies if Olatunji fails to respond satisfactorily.

Moreover, Pinheiro advised “unsuspecting members of the public” to cease disseminating the alleged defamatory content, warning of legal consequences under various laws, including the Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act 2015.
As the legal battle intensifies, it remains to be seen how Olatunji and FirstNews will respond to the demands and potential legal action threatened by Gbajabiamila’s team.
