FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, has issued a strong message to women who remain in abusive relationships because their partners chased them for years before dating.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Adeh took to social media platform X to recount a recent interaction with a woman who came to her office on Friday, July 18, seeking help after enduring repeated abuse from her partner.

According to Adeh, she asked the woman why she stayed despite the violence. The woman replied, “He chased me for years before I agreed to date him.” Shocked by the response, Adeh decided to address the common but harmful mindset publicly.
“Chasing is not the same as loving,” Adeh wrote. “Some men chase out of ego, competition, or the thrill not because they value who you are. Once the chase ends, the real character shows.”
She added that people should focus less on how long someone pursued them, and more on how they are treated once the relationship begins. “Settle for someone who shows love, respect, and consistency not performance,” she advised.

Adeh warned that abusive behaviour is not a lack of conscience but a sign of immaturity, selfishness, or emotional emptiness. She urged women not to let a partner’s brokenness define their worth.
She ended with a note of caution to her fellow women: “My gender, make we shine our eyes.”
