Girl, Boyfriend Nabbed By Police for Staged Kidnap and Ransom Plot in Asaba

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested Princess Okolie and her boyfriend, Prince Atigbi, in Asaba for allegedly faking her kidnapping and extorting ₦2 million from her parents.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday. According to Edafe, Okolie confessed to staging the abduction to obtain money from her family.

The case began on January 2, 2025, when Mrs. Oliko Joy reported to the police that her daughter, Okolie, left home on December 30, 2024, and did not return. \

The next day, the family received a call claiming she had been kidnapped, with the alleged kidnappers demanding ₦2 million for her release.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, immediately assigned the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad, led by CSP Labe Joseph, to investigate.

The squad launched an intelligence-led operation, culminating in the arrest of Atigbi as he collected the ransom money.

Upon interrogation, Atigbi revealed he was not an actual kidnapper but was following a plan orchestrated by his girlfriend, Okolie.

Further investigations led to Okolie’s arrest. She admitted to faking the kidnapping to extract money from her parents, and the ₦2 million ransom was recovered.

Both suspects are currently in custody, and authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

The police have urged the public to refrain from engaging in such criminal acts, warning of severe consequences for those found guilty of extortion or staging false crimes.
