Gladys Oluwatoyin Atawo Earns Prestigious Chieftaincy Title
Eko Hot Blog reports that In a majestic celebration of culture and community, Gladys Oluwatoyin Atawo will be honored with the esteemed chieftaincy title of Yeye Asoludero of Itire Land on Saturday, February 24th, 2024.
The lavish ceremony, hosted by His Royal Majesty Oba Tajudeen Ishola Odubivi, the Onitire of Itire Land Odunburu II, will take place at the beautifully decorated Ansarudeen Primary School in Itire, Lagos.

The conferment of this noble title recognizes Mrs. Atawo’s seminal contributions and selfless commitment to advancing healthcare and uplifting communities over her prolific career spanning 33 years in Nigeria and Canada.
Born in bustling Ebute Meta, Lagos, Mrs. Atawo embarked on her journey to becoming a leading light in the nursing profession by pursuing her diploma at the prestigious School of Nursing Wusasa in Zaria. She furthered her education at the highly-ranked University of Toronto, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
In Nigeria, Mrs. Atawo honed her skills as a Nursing Sister at the reputable Eko Hospital in Surulere, Lagos, before becoming Assistant Matron at the esteemed Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Clinic.
Upon relocating to Canada in 1989, Mrs. Atawo cemented her reputation as an authority in diverse nursing disciplines including medical, surgical, psychiatric, obstetric and public health at prominent hospitals. Her expertise and leadership led to her appointment as Manager of Public Health in the Family Health Division at Toronto Public Health.
Beyond her celebrated clinical career, Mrs. Atawo has been instrumental in empowering communities, serving as President of Eko Club Canada for 8 years and the Nigerian Nurses Association of Canada.
She co-founded the trailblazing Afroglobal Television Network showcasing the richness of African culture in Canada.
As a respected voice in public health, Mrs. Atawo has spearheaded numerous workforce training and mentorship initiatives to bolster capacity at nonprofits, academic centers and government institutions alike.
The conferral of the title Yeye Asoludero, meaning “Mother of Progress”, recognizes Mrs. Atawo’s lasting impact.
As an exemplary leader and change-maker, she is admired for her wisdom, vision and ability to inspire future generations.
The grand ceremony will be attended by dignitaries from across Nigeria including community builders, cultural custodians and Mrs. Atawo’s family, friends and mentees.
