Gov Makinde Urged For Assistance As Rainstorm Destroys Over 25 Houses In Ibadan Communities

Eko Hot Blog reports that no fewer than 25 Houses, School, Mosque, Church and  other structures have been destroyed as a result of heavy rainstorm, which accompanied the rainfall that occurred in some parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Saturday.

Among the houses, school and other structures which, were affected are those that belonged to residents of Òjímì egàn, Olósun, Àsábarí, Aaye, Ajanla, Ajaiiga, Siba, power line all in Olósun area, Apata , Ibadan, Ido Local Government Area of the state.

A resident of Aja iga, Ajanla, Apata area in Ibadan,  Mr Dauda Ayinla who spoke to our correspondence narrated how the sad occurrence happened:

“We went out this morning and came back home around evening time when the clouds began to gather. Shortly after a strong wind began to cause damage to the houses.

“Many houses were affected. It’s a serious issue beyond us as a community. So we are calling on the government to kindly assist us. Things are really rough for everybody at this time. The government should please come to our aid.”

Also, Mr Tomisin Adeyefa, General Chairman, Ifesowapo Community, Olosun, Apata Ibadan who spoke with our correspondence called on Governor Seyi Makinde to come to their rescue.

“Rainfall accompanied by heavy wind caused serious damage in our area. Many houses collapsed completely, while others had their rooftops destroyed. Approximately 25 houses were affected, including a school building, Muslim and Christian worship centers.”

“It’s a natural disaster, and we can’t blame anybody. We can only pray that God saves us from calamity. The heavy wind wreaked havoc, and all the affected households have been running helter-skelter. Things are really tough for everyone at this time. Many of these people do not have anybody to depend on.

“That’s why we are appealing to the Oyo state Governor to come to our aid. It’s a genuinely serious problem that we can’t bear alone. Students are returning to school, and besides that, we all have personal challenges we are facing. That’s why we need the government’s attention.”

“Our legislators, both at the state and federal levels, should also please come to our aid. Since the incident happened yesterday, those affected have nowhere to lay their heads.”

“Many have taken refuge in other people’s houses, and we all know this is not sustainable. We need urgent attention in the Ifesowapo Community here. Community members have tried their best, but to be honest, it is beyond us.” He said
