He praised President Tinubu for granting CPESK a provisional license to operate as a private postgraduate institution, describing the move as a significant step toward strengthening local expertise in the petroleum industry.
“This college, if well supported, has the potential to develop manpower that will transform Nigeria’s petroleum industry,” Mr Sani said.
He assured the PTDF of his government’s full support to guarantee the successful inauguration and effective operation of the institution.
“PTDF should feel free to approach the Kaduna State government for any support required to ensure the success of this important institution,” the governor added.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Ahmad Galadima, stated that the purpose of the visit was to update the governor on the progress made toward the official launch of the college.
He revealed that the institution is set to welcome its first cohort of PhD students in September 2025, with 3,702 applications already received under the Split Site PhD Programme.
Screening and interviews are currently underway, and successful candidates will be admitted into five faculties.

Galadima explained that the college will initially begin operations with three faculties and six departments, offering a total of 19 academic programmes.
The initial faculties include the Faculty of Computing and Telecommunications Technology, the Faculty of Earth and Applied Sciences, and the Faculty of Energy Law and Management Sciences.
He also noted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted CPESK a license to operate as a private postgraduate institution.
Additionally, he announced that the PTDF has entered into strategic partnerships with the University of Strathclyde, Robert Gordon University, and the University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom.
“These partnerships will support the delivery of split-site postgraduate programmes, where students will study primarily at CPESK in Kaduna, with short academic visits to the partner universities in the United Kingdom,” he said.
The Executive Secretary recalled that the PTDF initiated the establishment of CPESK in 2009 with the goal of training senior technical, managerial, and executive professionals to serve Nigeria’s energy sector.
