EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement shared on his X handle, @smkatung, on October 31, 2025, Katung described his defection as “a most difficult, but ultimately necessary, decision.” The statement, titled “A New Chapter: A Message of Unity and Purpose,” revealed that the decision came after weeks of “deep consultations with constituents, critical stakeholders, family members, friends, and political associates.”
“The past few weeks have been incredibly demanding yet profoundly reflective moments of my public life,” he wrote. “After engaging in broad consultations, I have made the decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress.”
Katung said his move was driven by a “genuine desire to serve our people more effectively and ensure our voices are heard and respected at the highest decision-making tables where the destinies of our communities are being shaped.”
He noted that the defection followed repeated calls from various segments of his constituency, who urged him to join the APC to align with current governance structures and attract more development to Kaduna South. The senator also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for their willingness to partner with him in delivering “phenomenal and epoch-making development” to the region.
Katung revealed that Daniel Amos and several members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly also joined him in defecting to the APC, describing the party’s growing presence in Kaduna South as proof of “a genuine commitment to inclusion, equity, and progress.”
He added, “The era of marginalization and exclusion, particularly in our recent past, is being replaced with purposeful governance and partnership. We are moving to ensure that these gains are not only sustained but replicated in many more communities in the zone.”
The senator urged his supporters to maintain unity and not allow political differences to damage personal relationships. Quoting Thomas Jefferson, he wrote, “I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, or in philosophy as cause for withdrawing from a friend. Let our relationships going forward embody that same spirit of mutual respect and enduring friendship.”
