EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to Makama Zagazola, a publication focused on counter-insurgency in the Lake Chad region, an unspecified number of militants were killed in the confrontation, while seven kidnapped travelers were successfully rescued.
Citing intelligence sources, the report stated that the convoy comprised troops from Operation Hadin Kai, an elite police unit, and high-ranking government officials returning from Biu Local Government Area in Borno when the insurgents attempted to abduct passengers from a Volkswagen vehicle.
The publication clarified that Governor Zulum had traveled by helicopter and was not present in the convoy during the attack.
