Dr. Chima Amadi, Chairman of the Centre for Transparency Advocacy, emphasized the importance of accountability to prevent abuse of power.
Speaking at a conference in Abuja, Dr. Amadi expressed concern over the loss of confidence among citizens and called for immediate action to restore hope in the country.
He highlighted the challenges faced since the return of democracy in 1999, noting a decline in governance quality despite initial optimism.
Dr. Amadi criticized the erosion of institutional integrity and accused a powerful minority of undermining democratic principles for personal gain.
He cited instances of corruption, security lapses, and economic mismanagement as evidence of systemic decay.
“The Nigerian state is being hijacked by the political elite, sacrificing its integrity for selfish interests,” Dr. Amadi warned.
He lamented the decline of judicial independence and the subversion of constitutional checks and balances.
