- Two Iranian judges killed in Tehran Supreme Court shooting.
- Gunman commits suicide after planned attack on judges.
- Investigation underway; suspects identified and detained.
The judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported that the assailant, who infiltrated the court, carried out the attack in what was described as a “planned act of assassination.”
The victims, Ali Razini and Mohammad Moghisseh, were known for handling high-profile cases related to “crimes against national security, espionage, and terrorism.”

The gunman, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly “killed himself” after carrying out the attack. One other person was also injured during the incident.
Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir confirmed the details, stating, “A person armed with a handgun entered the room of the two judges and shot them.”
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have identified, summoned, or arrested individuals in connection with the attack. However, the motive remains unclear, as the assailant had no known involvement in any Supreme Court cases.
The slain judges were respected figures within Iran’s judiciary. Mohammad Moghisseh, 68, had been sanctioned by the United States in 2019 for conducting trials deemed unfair by the US Treasury. Ali Razini, 71, was a veteran judge who had survived a 1998 assassination attempt when a magnetic bomb was planted on his vehicle.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed his condolences over the killings, urging authorities to take swift action. “I strongly urge the security and law enforcement forces to take the necessary measures as soon as possible by examining the dimensions and angles of this reprehensible act and to identify its perpetrators,” Pezeshkian said.
While attacks on judges are rare in Iran, the country has witnessed a number of shootings targeting prominent individuals. In October, a Shiite preacher was killed in Kazerun after leading Friday prayers. In April 2023, influential cleric Abbas Ali Soleimani was shot dead in a northern Iranian bank. In August 2005, renowned judge Hassan Moghaddas was murdered in Tehran, with two men later convicted and publicly hanged for the crime.
