Gunmen Kill Police Inspector in Borno Attack

In the early hours of Sunday, unknown gunmen launched an attack on the Jakana Police Station in Konduga Local Government Area, Borno State, resulting in the death of a police inspector.

According to Eko Hot Blog, Nahum Kenneth, the state Police Public Relations Officer noted that the gunmen tried to infiltrate the police parameters, but efforts of the Police Mobile Force attached to the police station in Jakana repelled the gunmen who attempted to overrun them.

Kenneth indicated that it was premature to determine if the attackers were Boko Haram terrorists.

“Right now, we can only classify them as gunmen because their anonymity is yet to be unravelled,” he stated.

Earlier this year, in February 2024, four policemen were reportedly killed, and a significant amount of ammunition was stolen when suspected terrorists, believed to be fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), attacked a police station in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area.

The attackers opened fire on the policemen on duty and set parts of the station on fire during the assault.

A security source, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the terrorists had also set parts of the police station ablaze during the attack.
