- Sultan Ibrahim ‘The mad’ of the Ottoman empire was born in 1615 and died in 1648.
- Ibrahim got his tittle “The Mad” due to the mental issue he developed when he was in prison (solitary confinement) on orders from his elder brother sultan Murad iv.
For fear of rebellion against Sultan Murad, he (Murad) killed all the Ottoman Empire’s Princes. However, Sultan Ibrahim was able to survive due to his mother’s influence and instead of killing him, he was rather jailed.
At the time when Sultan Murad passed away, he had no heir to the throne and fortunately, Ibrahim was the only sole surviving prince of Ottoman and thus he was released from jail and invited to take over the throne.
At first, he refused due to the fear of his elder brother Murad thinking he was still alive and setting a trap for him. He later accepted after he personally inspected his brother’s corpse.
When he took over the throne, he was given concubines to immediately father a heir. It was unknown to him that he was the ruler only by name while his mother and the viziers were the true power behind his throne.
He was given many concubines and reportedly slept with 24 of them in a single night that made him the father of 18 children.
He also had many mirrors installed in his bedroom which enabled him to see himself while in action from different angles and after him, no crowned sultan was named Ibrahim, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
