The Anambra State Government has suspended two health workers, Njideka Ezeihejiofor and Blessing Offor, over negligence and absenteeism.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ezeihejiofor, the Officer-in-Charge at Ukpo Primary Healthcare Centre, was suspended for refusing to attend to a pregnant woman, who later had a stillbirth outside the facility on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Offor, in charge of Uke Primary Healthcare Centre, was penalized for consistent absenteeism from work.

The disciplinary panel, chaired by Commissioner for Health Afam Obidike, approved their suspension on Friday after investigating the incidents.
Ezeihejiofor admitted to the panel that she turned away the pregnant woman due to fatigue and later refused to assist when called to help after the stillbirth occurred nearby. The panel found that she neither examined the patient nor provided a referral letter.
Obidike condemned her actions, emphasizing that a retained placenta could have led to fatal bleeding. As a result, she was demoted and suspended without pay, while other staff at the facility were issued queries.
In Offor’s case, she was found guilty of repeated absenteeism. Her salary was suspended indefinitely, and she was ordered to refund eight months’ wages received while absent.

Obidike reaffirmed the government’s commitment to high-quality healthcare and warned that negligence undermines Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s health policies. He urged health workers to uphold professional standards or resign voluntarily to avoid disciplinary actions.
