EKO HOT BLOG reports that FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, revealing that the police responded to a distress call from a resident, Shandam Michael.
Officers from the Byazhin Division arrived at the scene and immediately transported Usman to Kubwa General Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for advanced care.
“A distress call reported a shocking event involving Ismail Usman, a local herbalist known for his unconventional methods,” Adeh said.
“In a misguided attempt to test the effectiveness of a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm, Usman shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun. Unfortunately, the charm failed, resulting in life-threatening injuries.”
During a subsequent search of Usman’s home, police recovered the homemade gun and a variety of charms used in his experiment.
Investigations revealed that the herbalist would face charges of unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide, violating Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident and reiterated the dangers of illegal firearms. He urged the public to refrain from acts that endanger their lives and violate the law.
Usman remains under medical care as investigations continue.
