The session was graced by distinguished personalities, including Mr. Weert Börner, the Consul General of Germany in Lagos, and Mr. Lai Mohammed, former Minister of Information, Arts, and Culture, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Discussions centered around improving vocational training in Nigeria and exploring the prospects and challenges of skilled migration to Germany.
A major highlight of the event was the emphasis on bridging the skills gap within Nigeria’s workforce.
Participants agreed that equipping Nigerians with essential skills relevant to the current job market would not only enhance employability but also empower those migrating to Germany to secure better job opportunities, rather than settling for menial work.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Lai Mohammed highlighted the importance of strategic collaboration to drive change in Nigeria’s TVET landscape.
“To address the skills gap, we need coordinated efforts from all stakeholders, including government, educational institutions, and the private sector.
This is the only way we can prepare our youth for the challenges and opportunities of the global job market,” he said.
Giwa Murtala Omotola-Moore, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Technical and Vocational Education Matters, also shared his insights on the significance of skilled migration.
“We must prioritize the development of relevant skills to ensure that our youth are competitive on the global stage.
This partnership with IHK Gießen-Friedberg presents an opportunity to align our vocational training programs with international standards,” he noted.
The IHK Gießen-Friedberg was praised for its remarkable contributions to vocational training in Nigeria, having successfully implemented a vocational training partnership from 2012 to 2018, which saw over 600 apprentices and trainers receive specialized training.
Their commitment to fostering skilled development in Nigeria continues to be instrumental in enhancing the country’s TVET sector.
Mr. Weert Börner, Consul General of Germany in Lagos, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating,
“Germany remains committed to supporting Nigeria in its quest for educational and economic growth.
