Some distinguished personalities of Epe ancestry have called on women, especially young mothers to be steadfast in their obligation to raise promising children accordingly since the family is the smallest unit of the society.
The call became crucial in a society where its core values are diminishing owing to several factors some of which includes broken homes, career path and to some extent technology.
Eko Hot Blog obtained the opinion of some guests who came to honour the 8th day fidau prayer of the late Iyaloja General of Epe Division, Alhaja Mulikat Onibon. These prominent guests described the sterling lifestyle of the late nonagenarian as worthy of emulation by all women and therefore harped on the need for women to uphold the sanctity of their various homes.
Hon Tobun Abiodun, member representing Epe Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, described the role of women in moving the economy as such that can not be underestimated. This he revealed to Ekohotblog while paying tributes to the late Iyaloja.
“The role of women is a role that one can not underestimate in the socioeconomic emancipation of our people, women own the economic base of many homes.
For instance, the Iyaloja General of Epe Division was the mother and leader of all women folk in the market, she was the commandant of the market who encourage others to do business, make profit and train their children, which she also accomplished for her children.
I use this opportunity to encourage all mothers to train their children in order to bequeath indelible legacies after their exit”, he stated.
In the same vein, the Olori Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, Olori Aribike Adewale, revealed to Ekohotblog that the late Iyaloja was many things to a lot of people. She was described as a principled and devout Muslim who attained the status of Iya Sunnah of First Epe Central Mosque, Oke-Balogun.
“I am short of words, I don’t know the adjective that I can use to describe her. She was very good to everybody in every way. We saw each other during the new year party for the aged and she always partake in our “asalatu”.
My advice to our young women in the community is that we should emulate mama’s virtues of trade, commerce and industry “, she said.
Also speaking with Ekohotblog was the president of Epe Professional Women Association, Professor Basirat Oluwanishola Oladipupo. The Rotarian revealed that the late Iyaloja was a dogged and industrious with her trade which paid off in giving her children a good legacy.
“The simple thing her lifestyle acquaints us is how to combine the family and the socioeconomic development of the community. We could use Alhaja Onibon as an Exemplary leader who has impacted positively in the lives of women in Epe. She made the not only the women folk but also men, understand the import of hard work.
The simple lesson I would want the younger women of this generation to learn if for them to know that even being a single mother doesn’t make any difference, a single mother can still do exploits with her children and at the end, the dividends will pay off”, she averred.
While she prayed for the repose of Alhaja Onibon’s soul, she also hoped that many of the deceased likes will spring up for the benefit of all.
The Iyaloja-General of Lagos, Mrs Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, also found time out of her inordinately busy schedule to grace the occasion of Alhaja Mulikat Onibon’s 8th day Fidau prayer.
