Scores of herdsmen have been reportedly killed by members of the Boko Haram sect in Monguno, Borno State.
It was gathered that no fewer than 22 herders were reported killed by the terrorists over the weekend.
The National Security Adviser to President Buhari, Babagana Monguno, is from Monguno.
Speaking on the attack, a resident of the community disclosed that the insurgents also abducted some of the herders and went away with many cows.
He said, “We have recovered 22 dead bodies, all of them brutally killed.”
The Boko Haram sect has increasingly targeted farmers, herders and loggers, accusing them of spying and passing information to the Nigerian military.
The insurgents have also been raiding herding communities, stealing cattle, a valuable commodity in the region to fund their operations.
It would be recalled that in December 2020, the Boko Haram Terrorists invaded a rice plantation in Zabarmari, a community in Jere Local Government Area, killing at least 43 farmers.
Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province, have become more ferocious in recent times.
While Nigerian Army has repeatedly claimed that the insurgency has been largely defeated and it frequently underplays any losses, the terror group has caused over 40,000 deaths and displaced millions of individuals mainly in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.
