How Drug Addiction Led Me to Psychiatric Hospital – Crayon
Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, widely known as Crayon, has opened up about his past struggles with drug addiction, revealing how close he came to losing his life and the time he spent in a psychiatric facility.
In a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, Crayon recounted a particularly harrowing episode that took place outside his record label’s office, where his colleague Rema came to his aid.
He shared, “One day, my manager saw me and was alarmed by my condition. When he asked what was wrong, I told him I’d only smoked weed. Suddenly, I started acting erratically and walked barefoot to the Mavin studio.

I feel like I’m God’s favorite because nobody recorded that moment. If someone had, it could have seriously impacted my confidence and career.”
Crayon described reaching the gate of the Mavin studio, where he sat down and expressed his exhaustion. “I took off my shirt and smashed my iPhone,” he said. “Then my phone started blowing up with calls. Rema, BabyFresy, and others were frantic, asking what was wrong. I told them I was tired.”
Rema arrived with a stick, prepared to confront the situation. Crayon recalled, “I was lying on Rema’s lap, and he said, ‘Bro, trust me, once you get through this, you’ll come out stronger. This is your final battle.’”

He admitted that he was in such a state that he almost jumped out of a moving car. “It was that intense, similar to Mohbad’s situation,” he added.
Eventually, he was taken to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki, an experience he described as profound. Afterward, he returned to Don Jazzy’s house, marking a turning point in his life.
