‘Lucky Break:’ How Lagos Car Owner Recovered Vehicle 40 Minutes After Theft

  • There has been a failed attempt to steal a car in the Ikotun area of Lagos.
  • Police operatives on patrol successfully responded to the incident.
  • Police detectives also busted a one-chance robbery gang in a different incident.

Eko Hot Blog reports that men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one Stanley Eshett for stealing a car in the Ikotun area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday.

He said Eshett was arrested with the stolen car by patrol officers from Ikotun Division while two of his accomplices fled.

According to Hundeyin, the car owner identified the suspect as one of those who violently snatched his car 40 minutes earlier.

“Patrol Officers from Ikotun Division while on neighborhood patrol at about 1am intercepted an unregistered Toyota Yaris car with three occupants around Abaranje,” the police spokesperson said.

“Upon sighting the officers, the occupants took to their heels, abandoning the car. An intense search of the area led to the arrest of one Stanley Eshett aged 29.

“The car owner who was successfully contacted showed up and identified the suspect as one of the persons that violently took the car from him 40 minutes earlier.”

Hundeyin added that investigation was ongoing.

One chance robbery gang nabbed by Lagos police detectives

In a related development, the police spokesperson revealed on Wednesday that detectives from Ilasan Division have arrested Habeeb Azeez ‘m’ aged 29, Micheal Adeyeye ‘m’ aged 26, Biodun Iyiola ‘m’ aged 46 and Adeleye Dotun ‘m’ aged 27 in Ijora-Badia following discreet investigation into a complaint by a victim that the suspects withdrew N1.4million from her account during a one-chance robbery at Ilasan.

Hundeyin explained that their faces were intentionally ucovered because they already made confessional statements.
