Hugo Broos Begins Preparations For Super Eagles Clash As Williams Talks Tough

Eko Hot Blog reports that Hugo Broos, the head coach of Bafana Bafana, has begun preparations for their upcoming match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

As the Super Eagles players are still getting acquainted with their new coaching staff, South Africa’s coach has announced a 36-man provisional squad for their clash with Nigeria on June 7.
Note that Nigeria currently sits in third place in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, trailing South Africa by one point and Rwanda by two points.
This means Nigeria must defeat South Africa in Uyo on May 7 to keep their hopes alive for securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Hugo Broos understands that to maintain their advantage in the qualification series, South Africa needs to either beat or draw with Nigeria in Uyo.
Then secure a victory against Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
Meanwhile, South Africa goalkeeper, Rowen Williams is confident that he and his teammates will beat Nigeria in Uyo.
Recall that Williams was the goalkeeper when the Super Eagles eliminated South Africa in the semi-finals of the 2023 AFCON via penalties in February 2024.
He is expected to be in goal again on June 7.
“The last time we went to Nigeria we beat them. I was part of that squad, so I will share my experience with the players,” Williams said, according to the Citizens.
“And it was a valuable experience in the Afcon, playing Nigeria.
