Most Nigerians, particularly Christians, are familiar with Sheikh Gumi’s name. The well-known Islamic cleric is well-known for his campaigning for bandit amnesty.
He has emphasized the value of forgiving bandits and granting them amnesty in many interviews.
Sheikh Gumi once paid a visit to the bandits in their hideout and even conversed with them.
Most Christians chastised him after the news went viral, accusing him of betraying Christian believers. Sheikh Gumi, on the other hand, claimed in his most recent interview that he has never misled Christians.
He just went to make a last-ditch effort to make amends with the bandits.
He went on to say that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) misunderstood him because the viral video of his conversation with bandits was skewed and the message was manipulated.

He is a man of goodwill and would never attempt to bring citizens of any faith to their knees.
All of this was revealed in his response to the Christian Association of Nigeria. According to him, forgiving bandits is one way the country can achieve peace because even those who planned a coup were forgiven, so why not bandits?
He responded to a question from the CAN in Kaduna about why the government should offer amnesty to bandits.
According to him, these bandits clearly told them that they are willing to lay down their weapons and do not want to face legal action if they repent.
This is the primary reason they should be granted amnesty.
“You might wonder why we grant them amnesty, but they expressly stated that they are willing to lay down their weapons and do not want to face legal prosecution after they have repented.” He stated his case.
