A 41-year-old man caught attempting to sell off a Toyota Corolla car he snatched from its owner along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, has said he intended using the proceed for poultry business and payment of his children’s school fees.
The suspect, Ademola Adeyemo, said: “Please, help me beg the owner to forgive me since I did not injure him. We did not use gun either.”
He was arrested by operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Lagos State Police Command, at Car45, at Owode Onirin area of the state while on the verge of selling the vehicle for N1 million.
It was gathered that he chartered the vehicle from Isaac John, Ikeja Government Reserved Area, to Ibadan, in the company of friend whose identity he gave simply as T-Boy, last September.
Midway into the journey, the suspect ordered the driver to pull over, pretending that he wanted to urinate, only to zoom off with the car, abandoning the owner.
Preliminary investigation by the operatives showed that the suspect had changed the vehicle’s original number plate AAA 05 FF, with silver colour, to number plate KJA 985 FS, wine colour.
Police sources said the intending buyer, a staff of CAR 45, took the vehicle’s particulars to the auto registration centre, where it was discovered that the seller was not the owner, and SARS was invited.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Elkana Bala, said the suspect would be charged to court.
